So you have a formal gown hanging in your closet…

Handbag sewing patterns, tote bag, clutch, evening bag, purseChange it up! Yourself!

Annie’s Formals sewing patterns are designed for reusing and upcycling a formal gown – or sewing in any fabric you love.

Annie’s Formals is about taking a dress you paid a two hundred bucks for, that you wore because you were friends with the bride (who else would wear an ugly dress and still cry happy tears?), and having a custom, hand-crafted chic accessory.

One that will forever remind you of the time when you stood by your friend, no matter what the dress, and cried as she walked down the aisle with what’s-his-face.

The patterns are easy to sew, even for beginners. Most are made entirely of rectangles – straight line sewing is easy – and come with full color photographs and step by step instructions for sewing success. We’ve sewn ‘em from gowns, from pretty cottons, from silk and taffeta. The instructions come with special tips and techniques for cutting the pattern from the gowns, which gowns will work well, how to reuse unique trims or details from the gown, and how to even repurpose the gown AND still get a bag.

Go ahead, give it a try! You’ll end up with a terrific bag that all your friends will ask “where’d you get that great bag?” and you can say “my closet. And I made it”.
